There are three versions: transparent version, shiny silver version and ceramic black version. The phone costs 5299 yuan ($ 764). As the company introduced, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has a large built-in 4500mAh battery. For the first time, it uses 120W high power wired charging which is rare in the industry. It charges 41% in 5 minutes and can fully charge the phone in 23 minutes. Today, we will take a look at this technology.
Custom charging brands
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra adopts a new 4: 2 high-power charging architecture. By decomposing high-power into dual-low-power charging, it not only reduces the impedance of the charging path, but also improves the overall conversion efficiency. Both charging routes have highly efficient custom charging chips. Thus they form a dual charge pump parallel architecture.
Among them, two custom charge pumps have a conversion efficiency of up to 98.5%. Not only does it increase the charge conversion rate but it also significantly improves the charge stability. In the 120W high power charging process, the two 20V 3A high voltage currents are converted to two 10V 6A low voltage currents. They are then finally converted into a 10V 12A high voltage input battery.
This charging pump chip is specially customized by Qualcomm according to Xiaomi charging requirements. The charge conversion efficiency is much higher than that of previous charge pump chips. The charging efficiency is higher, the loss is lower and the energy loss during the charging process is lower. Second, the most efficient custom charge pump can also reduce the heat generated during the charging process. Lower charging temperature further extends the duration of high power charging and improves charging speed.
The absolute space is filled with a 4500mAh battery
To cover the high 120 W charging power, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra uses a brand new dual-string butterfly battery. The latter is connected in series with two 2250mAh batteries, equivalent to 4500mAh. The design of the structure of the double cell type butterfly in series can double the charging power under the condition of the same charging current.
The newly designed butterfly pack has a smaller protection circuit than the traditional double-string battery side by side. It can also get more battery capacity with the same volume. The back of the protection circuit also adds a phase change heat storage material to effectively alleviate the increase in battery temperature during the charging process and extend the duration of high power charging.
Second, the battery cell adopts a low internal resistance tab design. Reduces internal resistance by 36% compared to traditional battery, achieving lower charge loss and faster charging speed. The temperature during charging can also be reduced by 4.8 ° C.
The company uses a thicker and lower FPC dual connection resistor between the battery and the motherboard. On the one hand, the dual FPC facilitates current shift and prevents the FPC connector from overheating during high power charging and dissipates the heat source. But on the other hand, custom FPC also effectively reduces energy loss during charging. In addition, it reduces heat production and improves charging efficiency.
In addition, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra uses the Battery feel battery voltage monitoring technology. Helps the phone accurately detect the actual voltage of the battery cell. This can effectively avoid errors caused by the battery protection circuit. Thus, it will bring a more accurate charging strategy during the charging process, making the total charging time further reduced. In addition, the cell voltage detection and cell balancing algorithm can balance the voltage difference between dual cells. It can avoid overvoltage of high voltage cells and overload of low voltage cells. This will undoubtedly extend the life of the battery.
34 layers of safety protection
While the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra supports fast charging, it also adds 34 meters of security protection. They ensure the safety of high power charging. In addition to the charging circuit, it has an independent MCU charging security chip. Once an abnormal charging condition is detected, the 120W charge can be switched off immediately. The anti-reflow circuit is specially designed for high power charging to avoid damage caused by the use of 5V chargers. The Type-C charging port adds a more corrosion-resistant ruthenium rhodium alloy material to reduce the corrosion problems caused by high-power charging.
