Last month, Xiaomi’s Redmi introduced the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C as two of its most affordable smartphones for 2020. The Redmi 9A, however, was the most affordable variant with modest specs and aggressive pricing. Today, the company introduces the Redmi 9A in China. It is the second smartphone of the Redmi 9 series to arrive in the country. The original Redmi 9 retail sells for 799 Yuan in the country, or $ 115. The Redmi 9A becomes the newest entry-level Redmi smartphone with a price tag of just 599 Yuan or $ 85. This is a great smartphone for this pricing point, surpassing most Android Go phones on the market.
The Chinese version of the Redmi 9A comes with 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. The handset will be available in three color options – Clear Sky, Lake Green and Sand Black. Its design is quite similar to last year’s Redmi 8A.
Redmi 9A Specifications
Under the hood, the Redmi 9A features a Helio G25 chipset. It is an original SoC from MediaTek, but it is enough to give a satisfactory performance. Ultimately, for this price point, you will receive a device with an Octa-Core chipset with eight Cortex-A53 cores. It provides a huge increase in performance compared to last year’s Redmi 8A / 7A that comes with the Snapdragon 439, it is even better than the Redmi 8 that comes with the same SD439.
The Redmi 9A features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with a drop notch on the top that includes a 5MP selfie shooter. This camera may sound weak, but it supports HDR, gesture photography and face recognition. Going to the back, we have a single 13MP camera combined with LED flash. It offers features such as HDR, portrait mode, AI scene recognition, time-lapse photography. Finally, this camera can output 1080 @ 30fps video.
The phone is a dual SIM device that has a triple slot for two SIM + microSD cards. If 32 GB is not enough for you, you can simply insert a good microSD card. Other features include a 1217 speaker, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unfortunately, the Redmi 9A will not be labeled as the device that brought the fingerprint scanner to this price point.
The handset maintains the tradition of Redmi in terms of battery life thanks to a huge 5,000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, you will be limited to slow charging as this phone has a micro-USB port. This is a controversial choice, after all, last year’s Redmi 8A came with a USB-C port. Unfortunately, this huge battery will take some time to charge due to the 10W limit.
The Chinese version comes with MIUI 12 straight from the box. It runs on Android 10 OS.
