OnePlus is currently one of the most trusted companies in terms of software support for their smartphones. The company has a good track record of providing faster updates to its latest smartphones. However, this does not mean that the old devices are left behind. In addition to the 2016 OnePlus 3 / 3T duo, the company has been providing an update to the OnePlus 5 duo since 2017. Now, the company is starting to focus on Android 11 and the OxygenOS version based on it. Today, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to Twitter to tease the upcoming version of Android.
The post reveals a clock with the time pointing to 11. This is clearly quite a teaser for the scheduled Android 11 update that the latest OnePlus phones will receive. Just like OnePlus did last year with OxygenOS 10, we believe this year’s release will follow the Android name scheme and be called OxygenOS 11. In addition to the Android 11 teaser, there are some speculations running through the Web.

Always working to finally hit OnePlus phones
Some users wonder why OnePlus used a watch to disturb the upcoming version of Android. Obviously, this is a nod to an upcoming Always On feature. However, this does not mean that this upcoming feature will reach older devices. At first glance, we believe the company will prioritize the recently released OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Or, at worst, the company could make Always On Display something exclusive for the upcoming OnePlus 8T series. But there is a small chance that it will happen. This is a feature that OnePlus has been neglecting for a long time. The same thing happened with wireless charging and water resistance assessments, is the situation different now?
We are also waiting to see how soon the recently released OnePlus Nord will be updated to Android 11. It is a 2020 phone and, hopefully, will not be set aside. We expect to see 2020 phones running Android 11 by the end of this year. The OnePlus 7 and 7T series may receive it earlier next year, while the OnePlus 6 and 6T should receive it by Q2 next year.
The OnePlus 8T is already being tested
Since we are talking about the OnePlus 8T series. We have the first indication that the company is already testing the upcoming smartphone. The alleged OnePlus 8T was detected GeeBench with Android 11. The handset has the “Kona” chipset which means Snapdragon 865 SoC. It is impossible to say whether this is vanilla or the Plus variant of the chipset. We expect OnePlus 8T phones to use the Plus variant. The RAM capacity of the leaked model has 8 GB of RAM.
