OnePlus has taken an important step in spreading the smartphone brand with the introduction of a new mid-range phone called the OnePlus Nord. The Nord is the first OnePlus mid-range phone in recent years. It brings some of the company’s innovative ideas, but makes some compromises to achieve a lower price. Under the hood, the phone has the Snapdragon 765G SoC that provides 5G connectivity, but its construction consists of a plastic frame. It has a 48MP camera, but unlike other mid-range phones on the market, it brings OIS.
Two variants are now available – 8 GB / 128 GB and 12 GB / 256 GB
OnePlus Nord enters different markets. Recently, the device has become Amazon India’s most anticipated phone. Today, it can be pre-ordered in the country through the e-commerce giant’s website. According to Amazon, shipments will begin next Tuesday. There are three options for phones, with prices starting at 27.99 INR (375 $ / 320 €). This value applies to the 8 GB RAM / 128 GB storage variant.
The 8 GB RAM variant is available in Gray Onyx and Marble Blue colors. There is also an immediate discount with some cards. In addition, OnePlus offers an extended six-month warranty and 50 GB of cloud storage. This is part of the company’s new program in India called Red Cable Club. The Chinese company also sells 12 GB RAM with a version of 256 GB in the country. However, this unit is only available in Gray Onyx. The above variant is sold for 29,999 INR which corresponds to $ 400 or € 340. It is still a good price, since in Europe the headset sells for 50% higher price at 499 €.
OnePlus will offer an even cheaper variant with 6 GB of RAM and just 64 GB of internal storage. This last option will be country specific and will sell for 24,999 INR ($ 320 / € 285). However, it will only appear in September. We do not think this option is good as the 64 GB is not much at this point and the phone does not have a microSD card.
ONEPLUS NORD SPECIFICATIONS
The OnePlus Nord is a competitive smartphone that displays a beautiful 6.44-inch Fluid AMOLED screen. The panel offers a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD + resolution. Instead of a single selfie snapper, the smartphone has a pill-shaped pill for two selfie snappers. The main camera is a 32MP unit optimized for night shooting. There is another Ultra-Wide Angle camera and the company ensures that the outdated selfie stick will be removed.
Under the hood, the phone features the excellent SoC Snapdragon 765G. Multi-Tasking comes with 6 GB, 8 GB and even 12 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it is divided between 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB variants. The storage is UFS 2.1, and since this is a OnePlus phone, the microSD card slot is missing. The phone has a Quad-Camera setting with the main 48MP shot leading the show. Although there is no telephoto / periscope unit for super zoom capabilities, the phone comes with optical image stabilization which is an advantage in this price range. Other features include NFC, on-screen fingerprint scanner, and dual SIM support. The lights are maintained by a 4.115mAh battery and Android 10 runs under OxygenOS.
The company promises two years of major Android updates and three years of security patches.
