This year is not the easiest for Nokia, as the company had to postpone many of its smartphones due to the pandemic. Despite the lack of mid-range phones earlier this year, the company announced the Nokia 8.3 5G in March. However, it was not released until this month with some countries such as Switzerland not having stocks until September. Now, the company has announced that its first medium-sized 5G phone will arrive in the United States. The company even announced a new change in its leadership.
According to a press release issued by HMD Global, the well-known Product Manager, Juho Sarvikas, will now be the Vice President of the company in North America. The executive will now have both positions. According to the press release, the first step in the company’s new strategy will be to ship the 5G smartphone to the United States this fall. In other words, we can expect the phone to be available there from the end of September until the third week of December.
Interestingly enough, the Nokia 8.3 5G will be the country around the same time that OnePlus launches the OnePlus Nord smartphone in the country. We are waiting for some comparisons between these phones. However, we expect the US OnePlus Nord to come with a Snapdragon 690 SoC, which will probably make it cheaper than the current Nord and Nokia 8.3 5G.
Nokia 8.3 5G specifications
The Nokia 8.3 5G brings what you expect from a premium mid-range smartphone. This includes a 5G Capable Snapdragon 765G with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. These specifications are built around a 6.81-inch screen with FHD + resolution and a hole in the upper left corner that includes the 24MP selfie snapper.
Moving backwards, the phone has a Quad-Camera setting. Includes a 64MP main camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The phone also features a side-by-side fingerprint scanner that acts as a power button. Ships with Android 10 OS directly from the box. We have a 4,000 mAh battery keeping the lights on. This battery is charged via a USB-C port with 18W fast charging support
Nokia 8.3 5G came as a global 5G smartphone. For this reason, it provides support for more 5G bands than most other 5G devices on the market. In Europe, the device sells for around 599 euros. We expect a similar price of $ 599 when it arrives in Uncle Sam’s country. In this price range, the phone will face direct competition with the LG Vevlver with just 6 GB of RAM, but the exact same storage capacity.
More details will be revealed as the release date approaches.
