There has been a lot of anticipation for the latest iPhone line that happens to be Apple’s first 5G smartphone. Apple recently held a press conference where it presented some products. However, it did not reveal the iPhone 12. Popular series apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted that the iPhone 12 would not be released at this press conference. According to him, mass production of this device will begin in batches in October.
According to previous reports, TSMC, the foundry responsible for the Apple Bionic A14 chip, will deliver 80 million A14 processors this year. These chips will be for the release of the iPhone 12 series. The postponement of the release of the iPhone 12 means that the sales time this year will be significantly reduced. If its mass production occurs in October as Ming-Chi Kuo predicts, then, its sales period it will only be more than two months.
The delayed release of the iPhone 12 and the reduced sales time may affect this year’s sales. Consequently, the relevant component suppliers will adjust their schedule. Everybody is watching now that TSMC is one of the major suppliers for the iPhone 12 series. The Taiwanese manufacturer can customize Apple A14 processor shipments.
As we said earlier, the iPhone 12 series will be the first 5G smartphone from Apple. The expectation for this series is high. There is a general assumption that the delay in the release of the iPhone 12 will reduce the desire of consumers to buy. However, this may not be the case because Apple has a very loyal fanbase. Most iPhone users will have to wait months if they need to use their first 5G phone. In addition, if the iPhone 12 series performs much better, demand will remain strong.
If Apple also increases shipments to meet market demand, demand for processors and other components may not decrease. If so, TSMC may not adjust A14 processor shipments this year. In addition, TSMC’s 5nm process went into mass production only in the first quarter of this year. Current production capacity is relatively limited. Many customers are still waiting in line. TSMC may not adjust its production plan and prioritize meeting the needs of a large Apple customer for many years.
As of now, we do not know the exact release date for the iPhone 12 series. However, the iPhone 12 series will probably arrive this year.
